Middleton Healthy Living Initiative
enables people to take more control
over their own health and find support
to help them with their condition in
the community. There are a range of
activities involving chronic disease
sufferers, young people, women and the
over 50's.
The key principles
are:

use or fail to access services

| Training young
people to become Junior Sports
Leaders - Develop them to run
peer sports activities |
| Healthy activity
weekends and school holiday courses |
| Training in
first aid, food safety, healthy
eating and safer, healthier lifestyles |
| Counselling,
advocacy and advice sessions |
| Production
of young person friendly health
promotion materials |
| fitness and
self defence training |
| Provide a
high quality holistic health service
which promotes mental and physical
health and wellbeing. This will
include aromatherapy, massage,
reflexology, indian head massage,
pilates, tai chi and yoga |
| Training people
to become food workers |
| Healthy eating
for adults, healthy eating for
young adults, men's dietary health,
women's dietary health, fun with
food |
| Training local
people in the self management
of chronic conditions, the development
of patient mentors to work with
other people to enable them to
manage life with chronic conditions |
These are a sample of the activities
which will be included in the initiative.
The long term aim is that people will
change their lifestyle to one which
improves their health and well-being.
